“The quantum era is reshaping cybersecurity faster than most businesses realize, and organizations must prepare to secure their data against emerging threats”
Amid rising threats from cyberattacks around the world, the UAE’s Cyber Security Council (CSC) has issued a new Cryptography Executive Regulation designed to reinforce data security across the country and prepare for the post-quantum era. The new regulation establishes high cryptographic standards, mandates secure data management practices, and classifies government entities based on priority levels for compliance.
“The Cryptographic Executive Regulation is a big step forward, strengthening data protection compliance and quantum security readiness. The UAE is raising the bar in cybersecurity and preparing for the quantum era,” said Janne Hirvimies, Chief Technology Officer at QuantumGate. “The rise of quantum computing makes the need to rewrite our data security even more pressing, and we at QuantumGate are committed to supporting organizations through this transition, providing the expertise and technology they need to navigate this new era.”
QuantumGate specializes in advanced post-quantum cybersecurity solutions designed to ensure organizations comply with the new regulations and remain resilient in the quantum era. Their suite of solutions is powered by a sovereign cryptographic library developed by Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute.
Post-quantum migration is a complex journey that begins with assessing and identifying an organization's current situation and conducting what is called a cryptographic inventory. For this journey, QuantumGate has built a specific solution called the Crypto Discovery Tool, an essential tool for all organizations, regardless of how they are mandated to proceed. This tool maps cryptographic assets and vulnerabilities across enterprise systems, providing a comprehensive overview of potential security risks. Alongside it, QSphere offers a quantum-secure encryption tool and a quantum-secure VPN, ensuring robust protection against emerging threats. Additionally, Salina provides password-less and free identity authentication, removing the burden of password management from users and improving the organization's security posture.
The Cryptography Executive Regulation, which will be implemented in phases, currently applies to sectors including government, defense, finance, healthcare, and aviation. Priority entities, including UAE government organizations and those providing cybersecurity services, training, and audit services to the government, are required to integrate post-quantum cryptography algorithms now.
“Given advances in quantum computing, entities should begin planning for their transition to post-quantum cybersecurity now, whether the new regulations mandate it or not. QuantumGate’s tools were designed specifically for the quantum era – we can help organizations build a roadmap to resilience,” said Hirvimies.
The Cryptography Executive Regulation is part of the UAE’s broader National Cybersecurity Strategy , which is built on five pillars: governance, protection, innovation, establishing and building, and partnership.
The UAE ranks in the top category in the International Telecommunication Union’s 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index, reflecting the country’s ongoing efforts to build a secure digital infrastructure.
